Training With Harrogate Sub-Aqua Club

I'm John, the Training Officer. I make sure that every student is matched to the right instructor, and help everyone to progress their skills as part of their diving career. as I did when I was trained with the branch Harrogate Sub-Aqua Club has always offered high quality training to it's members with one sole purpose - to ensure that divers trained in Harrogate can dive safely both at home and overseas, and they can always get the most from their diving. The Club therefore offers a progressive system of training, to cater for every level, from one night 'try-dives' up to advanced diver training and instructor development. We train using the British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC) training system - a system which not only results in one of the most highly regarded international diving qualifications, but is also specifically designed for people to dive in UK waters.

The system is stepped from Ocean Diver, through Sports Diver and Dive Leader to Advanced Diver. While you can complete the initial Ocean Diver qualification in about twelve weeks, it takes between three and five years to reach Advanced Diver level, yet your training is supported by the branch at every level along the way. To maintain high standards, training is only provided by Nationally Qualified Instructors or National Trainee Instructors.

When you join a BSAC course you will see that diving skills are taught progressively so that each new experience is built upon step by step. Following basic training in the safety of a swimming pool or protected area, students soon complete their first open water dives to achieve Ocean Diver certification. This progression continues to Sports Diver and beyond, where open water skills and techniques are further developed and experience gained.
