Harrogate BSAC was first set up in 1953 as the Yorkshire Underwater Research Group or YURG for short, and later joined BSAC in 1955 as number 039. Harrogate was also an active part of NorFed, the Northern Federation of Divers which was the final remaining Federation in the country, till 2023 when it ended.
We now have over 85 members from Trainees up to First Class Diver, and run an active dive program 12 months of the year, from pool training every Thursday to Capernwray and the Farnes in our own Rhibs or from Scapa Flow to Malta there is something for everyone.

One of the very early members is Ken Crow, and he’s still our president today and still likes to get a few dives in every year.
Harrogate BSAC has about 85 members from juniors at 12 years up to 80+ years plus who are still active, from trainees to BSAC top rank of first-class diver, and a healthy number of instructors and assistant instructors.
We train every week at the Harrogate Ladies Collage, and meet afterwards at the clubhouse at the Harrogate Hockey Club 9pm till close. Please get in touch by either Email, or better still pop in and see us on a Thursday evening and have a chat.
We at Harrogate BSAC would love to start you on your underwater journey, from that first Try Dive to the start of Training and that first sea dive. We have all the kit to get you started on that journey and is all included in the pool training, all you need are shorts and a t shirt and a passion for fun.
Learn to scuba diveWe would love to hear from you ,we are a very active club with over 600 logged club dives every year. We have our own compressor and can mix Nitrox. We have our own club kit, cylinders, reg, bcd, lead, masks, and fins. We have 2 club Rhib’s and access to a third and dive regularly at the Farne Island’s, with other club trips like Lochaline , Scapa , Eyemouth, and some warmer waters in Malta or Egypt’s Red Sea.

In the safe confines of the pool, a BSAC Instructor will introduce you to the basic skills and equipment needed to experience the thrill of breathing underwater for the very first time. Try Dives cost £20.
A typical Try Dive session lasts about 45 minutes. It involves poolside tuition on diving techniques and equipment, followed by a scuba dive in our pool with a BSAC-qualified instructor.
